Since we don't have a thread dedicated to recruiting, I figured I'd create one and hopefully the admin can pin it so it stays up top? Thanks admin!
Will open the thread by saying that the Govs got a commitment from Hillsboro High School, a WR Juwan Davis. Said on his twitter page that he's committed to Austin Peay and he is a 6'3" senior. Picked Austin Peay over Memphis, Ohio, Princeton, Purdue, Tenn. St., UT-Martin and Western Kentucky.

Nice job '82...I've been a govs football follower since 2006,and I've never been able to find a shred of recruiting info. Now all of a sudden it's out there. I don't know if that's because technology/media is becoming more all encompassing or if Austin Peay is just recruiting higher profile talent. This link shows a nice composite of players that Austin Peay's offered scholarships to:
It looks to me like we're kind of shooting for the stars. It doesn't hurt to ask some of these high profile in state guys, and I think there's something to be said for these efforts. However, I hope the govs are casting bigger nets and not banking on most of the guys on this list are coming to the Peay. I'm excited to see some recruiting news, and I hope it keeps coming. Ground floor baby!! Get in on it now... LET'S GO PEAY!!
The best players we are ever going to have during the Cannon error...era...are the players we have right now. Nobody wants to come here, be thrown on the field as a freshman totally uncoached. Our kids all had better coaching in high school than they are getting right now at AP. Kansas fired their head coach midseason to save what little chance they had recruiting-wise, we should take notice! Anybody who gets on here now and supports Cannon is obviously a paid cheerleader for the AD and/or Cannon. I know what some of you are thinking...that Ole' Joe makes sense when he aint drinking!

There's some validity to the idea that a new coach can add some sizzle on the recruiting trail. However, signing day is in the spring... We can give Cannon the season to try and get it together. If he doesn't turn it around we hire a new Coach in December and get the same impact in recruiting. I'm in the middle on this. I'm not a fan of the status quo like my friend '82 seems to be at times. However, I've learned that knee jerk reactions can sometimes miss the mark. Austin Peay fans were thrilled when Carol McCray left town, and it turns out he may be the best coach the Govs have seen in over a decade. As I've said before... Money talks. If the house is empty this Saturday as the Govs face undefeated EKU it doesn't bode well for Kirby Cannon. Negativity is okay... Apathy is unacceptable.
I'm tired of the link between APSU's athletics director and Coach Cannon. Those guys worked at the same school for a little while... That doesn't mean our AD has a soft spot for Cannon. Van Der Merwe has been very clear about his performance expectations. Let's not throw him under the bus... He may have a decision to make at the end of this season in regards to our football program, and as bad as a lot of people hate to hear it... He may have a decision to make in basketball soon too. Unfortunately sometimes money dictates what the school is able to do, but I do believe our new AD makes decisions for the better of the program and not based on personal relationships...

If this season goes similar or worse than last season, then I think they absolutely need to entertain the idea of letting him go. Regardless of what kind of recruits you're bringing in, if you go winless two seasons in a row, you don't stand much of a chance to be coming back the next year.
Hey there 82 old buddy, by me "beating a dead horse" seems to have caused you to put away your pom poms temporarily and start "entertaining" the idea that Cannon is a loser and may need to go. As your past posts have proven, you are real late coming to the party about Cannon. Two weeks ago you were adamant about giving old Kirby a chance but now Ole' Joe seems to have converted you. But, better late than never! When the coaching is this horrific do you really think we should ignore the "white elephant in the room" and not talk about it? You trying to get us excited about recruiting under our current coaching situation is like trying to convince the passengers on the Titanic how beautiful the furniture was while it was sinking!
All I'm saying is, yes we do need to give this guy more of a chance. BUT, at the same time, if the results are the same or similar to last year, and the players have no desire, then yes they need to look into it.
And sorry to burst your bubble but, "Ole Joe" hasn't converted me. You don't see me name calling on a message board and you won't ever will.
Coach Cannon signed a five year deal at $145,000 per year. This is year two. There won't be any moves made until the deal is over unless it is his choice. I'm in the minority on here but I think that he can get us going if given the time. Of course some want instant success but that is not going to happen at APSU. Personally I would rather see all of this money spent for basketball...but I'm very biased. I'll be there on Saturday and for every other home game. LET'S GO PEAY!
"The Spider Man Josh Lewis...does he like it? You better believe it! Do the Gov fans like it? You can believe it again! Does the P-Team like it? You can go to the bank on it baby! Lewis absolutely stuffed it, he said eat it!" - Peayvoice on "The Block"
Just curious, on what do you base your opinion supergov..... I just want to clarify one more time, success is subjective term.... for me success is improvement from week to week, that's all I expect....
Money has been spent on basketball. New court, new scoreboards, new scoreboard tables, etc. Money has been spent and honestly I don't think there is anything else they can or need to spend on basketball. I'm very pleased with what they've done. I know you're biased towards that program, as am I a little more than any other program at Austin Peay, but money needs to be spent with programs other than basketball. RCH Park is getting a facelift, which it desperately needs, and I see no one up in arms about that.
A football field is 120 yards by 53.33 yards and like Woody Hayes said "you win with people". All this talk about money and facilities instead of focusing on the product on the field is a waste of time. It is no wonder we can't change the losing culture around here. First you hire the leader, then you look for the improvements, then you see the winning, and that and that only changes everything. And speaking of name calling, apsu82 I'm gonna rename you IQof82 based on your posts I've seen. Do you realize how silly your posts about Cannon look already, how do you think they will look 3 years from now when we have let Cannon ride out his contract. You might want to stick to commenting on girl's tennis and quit taking up space that football guys could be using on here. Why don't you ask gogovernors some more football questions so he can educate you. I'll help you out too...a safety is worth 2 points!
