EKU had a 10 point lead, maybe a 12 point lead at one point. Mayo had a pretty game and just goes to show how well we’ve always defended that guy. He’s never had good games against us but is a solid player. And speaking of solid players, Ja Morant is the real deal. Just proving why he may be a lottery pick in the draft. No surprises to me on Saturday. I think what is a surprise is EIU being 2-0. Granted they were both at home and both OT wins vs UTM and SIUe but anytime you can start 2-0 is some good momentum going into remainder of the season. Standings after the first week Murray St 2-0 Austin Peay 2-0 Jacksonville St 2-0 EIU 2-0 Belmont 1-1 SEMO 1-1 SIUe 1-1 Tennessee Tech 1-1 EKU 0-2 UTM 0-2 Morehead 0-2 TSU 0-2

Peay, Murray, TSU, Belmont and Jax St all winners last night
IF you haven't seen Ja Morant's dunk vs Martin last night, you might want to look it up. Wow is all I can say

Looks like it will be a 4 team race for the top seed. Us, Murray, and Jacksonville State are all 4-0. Belmont is 3-1. Things will get interesting in a couple weeks when Belmont plays at Murray on Thursday and us on Saturday as long as all 4 teams go 2-0 this weekend. EIU will be no push over. 3-1 and playing pretty good ball and this week will be big for them with both Murray and us coming to town.
First two weeks have been fun but time to step up this week.

Jabari McGhee is OVC Newcomber of the week! He’s doing a great job for the Govs. Love his energy!

We really haven't played a strong team in conference yet. While I have optimism, I will reserve final opinion on this year's Govs until they play Murray, Jax State and Belmont. We barely beat a very weak SUIE team last night while the other contenders have blown them out.
In watching several recent game replays:
Poor free throw shooting - will cost them in close games Inconsistent defensive intensity Low basketball IQ - mental errors

Its SIUe first of all. Second, they beat SEMO, lost two games in OT, both on the road and then got hammered by Jax St. To say they’ve been blown out would be incorrect also.
Yes, they haven’t played well the last two games and beat two teams they probably should’ve beaten by a lot more. Good teams find ways to win. Don’t always have to be pretty.
Also, were 5-0 and have now won 12 of our last 13 games with the lone loss to an SEC team that quite honestly, we should’ve won. Best start in 10 years. Let’s save the criticizing for later in the year should it be necessary.

Our continued “not so good” playing bites us at EIU. Down 11 in first half, up 14 in 2nd half and get beat at the buzzer. Will need our best effort on Thursday nite for the Bruins. Hopefully playing at home will be a big boost for us.

Let's hope for a new string of consecutive wins. We'll need more than 1,500 fans to have any semblance of a home court advantage.
We will learn a lot about this team over the next 3 weeks.
Overall, I'm cautiously optimistic. Great new coach who needs time to recruit over a period of several years to build a consistent winner.

My bad, I had this weeks game mixed up, either way we need to come ready for both games! And agreed we need a good loud crowd. Yes, good coach and I am guessing we might keep him thru next season if he continues to do well and a better offer shows up! Pretty amazing the success he has already had and improvement of the players he inherited. He did get a big bonus in Terry Taylor though!!
